After many years of performing music, I am transitioning to write my own material. The creative touch and interpretation of music allows others to see what is in is my soul. That’s why at times one may sense many tunes I play have a blues or jazz twist to them that sporadically appear in the midst of folk, pop, and modern rock tunes. Much like Jimi Hendrix, it is a challenge for me to play the same thing twice on piano as I am constantly experiencing something different emotionally every time I play a piece of music. I am very much in the here and now of music.
If my music can help someone who is having a “rough” day to once again place one foot back in front of another, then I feel like I have accomplished something. Success is more that just a good stage performance, it is to look back over the audience and see them singing along and having an expression of joyful faces. This inner strength to face some of life’s most challenging obstacles is attributed to my faith. Words of inspiration from the music are what brought me comfort during those troubling times. The only way I can perform on stage is from the very depths of my soul. That’s why one will experience a variety of rhythms and tunes as my music is an expression of the joy and pain my soul has experienced in this lifetime. As I believe in giving all I have in everything I do, there is no fear of utilizing the 88 keys given on the piano and sliding into every accomplished vocal range that my abrasive voice may muster up. That is why a variety of music will be heard ranging from slow to fast with a strong beat to connect and sooth the soul. My performance is truly geared at keeping people at the edge of their seats.
"Music has a reason and a purpose in all of our lives", says Blacky Bridges. Nearly many decades years later, life’s journey has created many challenges and obstacles folks still experience today ranging from failed careers, medical, economical, social, discrimination, and political situations. “It was music that brought comfort to this trouble soul during trouble times over life's many challenges” Blacky says. But it was more than music, it was the message of hope and strength to move forward and face another day. That message of hope and strength came from a faith in the universe that will see one through life’s toughest challenges. “Hope begins when we face our greatest fears.” It was in 2019 when the option was to become real for an authentic life as the Universe intended. It's been a challenging journey to become true to yourself, be real with those around you, and find communities of love and support that will truly embrace who you were designed to be. That's where hope begins.
